UPDATE FROM INDUS DISCOVERIES
Dear Valued Business Partner
We hope that you and your loved ones have been keeping well, and that the approaching warmth of summer in the northern hemisphere will help you feel revitalised and optimistic.
As you're no doubt aware, the past few months have been particularly challenging and devastating in India. Just as life was showing signs of normality, the COVID-19 pandemic had a resurgence. It's difficult to say exactly what caused it as cases had dropped to low levels, most restrictions had been lifted, and people were mingling and travelling.
In fact, winter destinations such as Gulmarg in Kashmir had a bumper season, as Indians flocked there to enjoy the snow in the absence of being able to go overseas.
Virus variants are suspected to have played a role in the resurgence though, due to the different presentation of symptoms compared to the "first wave" of infection. The rapid transmission and progression of illness came as an unfortunate surprise, causing hospitals to be overwhelmed and a shortage of medications.
The good news is that the situation is already showing signs of improvement, with a significant drop in the number of new cases in many parts of the country. This includes Mumbai, Delhi, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. India is a resilient and adaptable nation, and we are confident that it will recover and bounce back.
During the brief break from the virus late last year, upswing in domestic tourism revealed a keen demand for offbeat destinations away from the crowds. This is exciting for us because sustainable and community-based tourism is our specialty. We are passionate about it and believe it will be the way forward for the travel industry in the future. Supporting communities is particularly important as they rebuild their livelihoods.
Over the forthcoming months, we look forward to reconnecting with you and keeping you up-to-date with what is happening in India, both in relation to the pandemic situation and the travel scene. We have remained productive and upbeat throughout the crisis, and are readying ourselves for the time when we can safely offer you memorable tailor-made holidays to India, Nepal & Bhutan again.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions or you need any information on India, Nepal & Bhutan please don't hesitate to contact us at holidays@indusdiscoveries.in.
Warm regards,
Fouzia B. Bhat
